The Viper is an anti-armor infantry of the Cartel.

Gameplay[]

Vipers are fragile but powerful anti-armor units with a good punch. Aside from general benefits of health boosts and life insurance, Vipers can also benefit from a damage upgrade that allows them to handle vehicles better.

As the cheapest anti-armor unit in the entire game, Vipers are available as soon as the first Barracks is constructed and can be fielded quickly to occupy banks or other buildings. It does better than the Shershen, which is not only unlocked after the prison module upgrade but also costs thrice as much. Since supply line harassment is usually done by fast vehicles, Vipers offer a reliable answer and can take out enemy light vehicles easily. Though it isn't durable, they work well when placed in any buildings, as vehicles will have a hard time getting to them while you build up your resources. The damage upgrade makes Vipers much stronger, as they can cripple more vehicles in one hit and finish them off easily. In even small groups, they are effective at deterring these units. The health upgrade is minor, but does help Vipers to survive longer, and like all Cartel infantry, the health insurance takes further emphasis of its low cost.

Despite their numerous strengths, Vipers have one weak point, that being their limited sight. Unlike the Javelin and Shershen, which can receive upgrades that allow them to perform indirect fire, Vipers cannot hit targets too far away, increasing their vulnerability significantly. Strong vehicles and enemy infantry often make them worse, as Vipers, just like any other anti-armor unit, can't deal with infantry at all and takes too much time to destroy said vehicles unless in extreme quantities. Vipers however still should not be ignored, an can be used to supplement any other anti-armor unit to destroy enemy units just as effectively.

Trivia[]

  • Viper's rocket launcher model is identical to the LAW used by Delta. This references how the FGR-17 Viper was meant to replace the M72 LAW before technicalities terminated its development and manufacturing.
