The Shershen is an anti-armor infantry team of the Cartel.

Gameplay[]

Shershens are durable and fire powerful missiles. Aside from the general benefits of health boosts and life insurance, Shershens can also be improved with indirect fire and an attack rate boost.

Shershen easily supersedes Viper as Cartel's prime anti-armor unit, and does the job surprisingly well, even when compared to the faction's own specialist vehicles. Their extended engagement range allows them to naturally return fire on enemy vehicles when entrenched in a building. In combination with their high health, Shershen can prove impossible to take down and will be detrimental to enemy vehicles if they strike at the right moment, especially to hamper enemy harassment if possible. When augmented with indirect fire, Shershens can match their equivalents, putting down lots of missiles to quickly overwhelm targets and rain down destruction, which is further accentuated with their fire rate boost. Even putting themselves behind a building can already cause some serious damage to an attacking force, as demonstrated in Sword of Damocles. A Punisher could further reinforce their defense.

Unfortunately, while arguably among the best in their role, Shershens do have their own problems. Just like any anti-armor infantry, Shershen is unusable against anything that isn't a land vehicle or doesn't have low range. Since Shershen take two slots, they limit the possibilities of variety, and it doesn't compensate for sniper equivalents that counter all types of infantry. Specifically, Shershens cannot outrange enemy artillery like the Koalitsija to perform counter-battery fire unless placed very well to catch their targets by surprise. While Shershens indeed can inflict high damage, they are limited by their relatively slow rate of fire, even with upgrades, so when many smaller vehicles approach Shershen may not be able to put them down whereas the SAS Javelin handles them pretty well for the same amount of room. Furthermore, unlike Vipers, Shershens are only avaliable after purchasing the Prison Module for any Barracks, with triple the cost and a long production time, so Vipers will remain a mainstay of anti-armor and Shershens can be awkward to use. Nevertheless, Shershens can still get the job done pretty efficiently and remains a valid answer to put up against enemy armor.

Trivia[]

  • Shershens likely reference the Consortium's Kornet Missile unit in Act of War, which are also anti-armor specialists that can exploit indirect fire.
    • Notably, "Shershen" can be roughly translated to "Hornet" from Russian, which rhymes with "Kornet".
  • In this regard, Shershens are also near-identical to the Kornet used by the Belyie Volki, hinting at possible connections between them and Cartel.
