The Valkyrie is a bomber of the Cartel.

Gameplay[]

Valkyrie is exceptionally fast and can devastate large areas with terrifying ease. It can be further upgraded with countermeasures to ward off enemy missiles, and AAMs for use against enemy aircraft.

Being much harder to intercept than other factions' equivalents, the Valkyrie is best used to launch assaults or wipe out large contingent of enemy vehicles on the ground, and in certain cases, update your intel on enemy bases and forces. Their napalm payload in particular can cover a medium area with inferno, causing constant damage over time to whatever that survives which builds up easily if structure or unit healing is not prioritized. Opponents who rely on infantry for defense are no match when it drops, and in groups, this effect is further compounded, melting even strong units with terrifying ease. Its very high speed and the possibility of having countermeasures can invalidate many types of usually effective ani-air defenses, such as Otomatic's autocannons and Blazer's missiles, while maximizing its chances of successful delivery even if it does get shot down. AAMs, while not initially useful considering its purpose, ensures it doesn't go down without a fight, even when confronted while airborne. In these aspects it is far superior to the X-32, as X-32 is slow, has no countermeasures, barely scratches anything that isn't a vehicle and is only able to engage ground targets. Furthermore, while it does takes rare earth to produce and has a high credit cost, Cartel can still achieve a powerful economy thanks to the existence of Barracks and Underground Stock Market.

Although Valkyries can prove difficult to shoot down or to intercept, it also has a number of issues. Indeed, it doesn't cost as much as a B-2 Spirit, though these are still very high numbers and losing one can be a serious dent in your strategy, often restricting its deployment in the first place. It lacks stealth, and while this isn't relevant with Air Control Center upgrades that many tend to procure early, a simple guess may be well enough to snipe it down from range. Though fast, they cannot protect themselves against enemy AA, so very large clusters of such units (Blazer/Stinger/Grinch/Skyguard turret/Antey-2500/Patriot) can often manage to easily destroy it if enough attacks are fired in a short span of time depending on the distance between the Valkyrie and the target, as it can either despawn before it its even hit or in thw worst case scenario gets shot down before it reaches its target. While it could get even with enemy air superiority fighters such as the F-22 Raptor, PAK FA and Berkuts, this often still allows the enemy to gain value, necessitating an escort of friendly ones to neutralize airborne threats. Finally, one should note that due to its weapon type, its effectiveness is questionable against enemy vehicles and structures at best against non-Cartel players. Valkyries, however, remain highly effective for their surgical strikes and can still act as excellent forms of area denial.

Trivia[]

  • As with many equipment in their arsenal, the Cartel likely recovered and weaponized the XB-70 Valkyrie. In reality, USAF gave up fighting for its production and terminated the B-70 program in 1961 when it offered no alternatives to outclass other bombers and ICBMs. The only two produced aircraft were used for supersonic test-flights during 1964–69. In 1966, one of them was destroyed after collision with a F-104 Starfighter during a formation photoshoot. The surviving prototype is in the National Museum of the United States Air Force near Dayton, Ohio.
  • In Norse mythology, a valkyrie is one of a host of female figures who choose those who may die in battle and those who may live.
  • Apart from the Reboot-exclusive Avenger, Valkyrie is the only fixed-winged aircraft that lacks optical camouglage.
