Fall of Olympus... Rise of Heliopolis is the fifth and final mission of the Beyond the Mirror campaign in Act of Aggression. This mission is unlocked on the completion of The American Civil War.[1]

Background[]

After Wittel is forced to retreat and fights a joint task force lead by Greg C. Schaefer, Yao tells Vermaak they will be supporting some Wittel loyalists. Vermaak doubts its practicality, deeming it a "suicide mission", but Yao adds she has a backup plan in discreet. Vermaak learns the Cartel consists of numerous cells, and Yao managed to contact the Heliopolis Cell. One of its members, "Osiris", confirms this, and Yao begs for Vermaak to join their efforts so the two could go dark and escape. "Osiris" then reveals Wittel has compromising evidence on the Heliopolis Cell. They and Yao figured a way to erase the data, though with another joint force on their trail, "Osiris" also requests Vermaak to defend the loyalists' HQ. In exchange, "Osiris" promises sanctuary for them in the Cell.

Objectives[]

Walkthrough[]

Defending a base for 45 minutes doesn't sound difficult until you realize the source of enemy units in this mission are located on the bases to the northeast and northeast corners. The only way to truly deprive the enemy of their reinforcements is to destroy their HQ buildings. Wittel's men will take a lot of heat for you, but as time advances their incompetency would become obvious.

You're given 2 Koalitsija artilleries, 2 Shadowhawks, 1 SuperHind and 2 Scout CGS recon vehicles. Air force consists of 1 Valkyrie and 2 X-32s. Starting infantry consists of Contractors, Shershens and Grinches. They along with Artillery turrets and Barracks are the key to victory, exploiting the Cartel's Force Projection and Medical Subcontractors to reinforce entrenched units. Since the HQ has a slow build time but can be put just about anywhere, it's recommended to place it close to Wittel's Field HQ. You'll have more freedom in building additional support structures.

It's faster to destroy most enemy structures, but beware capturing the marked ones are required for Mi casa es tu casa, not to mention the resources stored within.

Assault the outposts on the right and destroy the MG Nest immediately using the Koalitsija's indirect fire. To take the Barracks, first take the bank and destroy the Javelins, then cover your Contractors with each other to ensure they can take the Barracks, Field Hospital and Air Control Center. Further down the road are refineries and anti-armor infantry, so you should make the best use of your Contractors and any Marines from the Barracks. There's another MG Nest and an anti-stealth Phalanx CIWS, a few additional LEMs and an Administrative Center. Once you have the Helipad, research the Osprey's RGS Gatling upgrade and build some to make short work of any enemy helicopters and infantry. They won't stand a chance. It's also important to capture the Chimera Construction Outpost.

If you're going for the banks but the SAW-equipped Marines are there to keep you out, produce some Jackals or a Sniper.

For the outposts on the left, it's recommended to keep the Koalitsija in the back and put a few Shershens around to defend it from the occasional Stryker MGS while it destroys the enemy MG Nest, using Shadowhawks to scout out the area. Once the MG nest is gone quickly move the Shershens closer in case if another Stryker spawns, then capture the Light Vehicles Bay as well as nearby refineries and LEMs. The Heavy Vehicles Bay is undefended apart from another MG Nest, so take it before more heavy vehicles spawn, and produce some Abrams to counter enemy ground vehicles. Use the Shershens to occupy some nearby districts as well and ferry more troops with the Shadowhawk or Superhind. You should also take the Armory and research every upgrade that's possible.

It is recommended to build a few barracks, a stealth lab and a few air control centers in the back, then upgrade all your Barracks with prison modules. This ensures you can generate steady income while countering the usual fragility of the barracks. You'll expect Humvees and Javelins from time to time, so it would be a good idea to support your Contractors with Vipers, Shershens and Punishers, but as long as you're able to keep the enemy occupied at the frontlines they'll rarely if ever push to the base. Now you should continue capturing POWs produced by various skirmishes between enemy units and Wittel's forces, preferably with the Vanguard since they can sneak between the line of fire, and are only detectable by Little Bird. The Field Hospital you just took should also come in handy as it can hold a whopping 15 prisoners, and you can even exchange for additional aluminum with it. POWs are important, for Underground Stock Markets/Valkyries are expensive and you'll need the income to support them. On top of getting the Repair Drones upgrade to heal your own buildings, you need to quickly build another Outpost some distance away from the allied Field HQ, then convert it to a Construction Outpost. This cuts the distance for construction significantly and allows you to keep producing more Outposts/Sentinel Turrets, even if the original captured one is gone. With the massive aluminum stockpile, you should be able to afford many Outposts and Sentinel Turrets. Put the turrets on the outer perimeter and convert every new Outpost you build into Repair Outposts, so the Field HQ and your turrets could be healed rapidly. It costs to upgrade turrets and replace lost ones, so have some of your Barracks convert their income to aluminum. If used properly, the turrets can greatly ease defense, shooting down enemy missiles and jets while taking lots of heat. Move Koalitsijas here for additional firepower and make sure they don't wander too far. If the Heavy Vehicles Bay and Helipad still there, it is highly advised to get some Guardians and NLOS-Cs. The NLOS-Cs will help the Koalitsijas to batter down enemy vehicles while the Guardians make short work of enemy NLOS-Cs at range. The captured Air Control Center can be used to summon some F-35B Lightnings which come in handy as you can leave the air superiority tasks to the cheap and effective Berkut.

At certain intervals, B-2s will spawn to attack your HQ, with one in the first, two in the second and five in the third. To get the Air superiority achievement, you must destroy them all. The first B-2 arrives while Wittel's Patriots are still standing, so it shouldn't be that hard. As for the B-2s themselves, the best choice for taking them down is to build additional Air Control Centers in advance for the Berkut, sending them in as soon as the countdown timer reaches zero so they have enough time to swoop in. It would still be wise to supplement them with ground-based units, if possible, with the likes of Blazer and Grinch.

Around the last B-2 wave Chimera reinforcements begin to populate the area with deadly Tigres and Pumas while NLOS-Cs and HIMARS are more common. Enemy artillery shouldn't be too big of a problem now that your Guardians have been set up, and the others primary focus on attacking captured buildings. Usually it's tempting to protect them, though as Outposts can also physically stock resources and tend to drain the reserves when built, you end up losing very little. It's safe to say by this point attacking your base would be a suicide mission for them since the moment they get close they'll have to deal with a massive barrage of shells from your own artillery and the Sentinel Turrets.

For The Best Defense achievement, you need to destroy both enemy HQs on the northeast and northwest corners. There are a couple of ways to do this, specifically with 10+ Valkyries or several THOR Control Centers as there are simply too many enemy units in the area for a land assault to be effective. Both of these (and any upgrades on the Stealth Lab) require Rare Earth Elements, which means you'll have to resort to having a strong credit economy and Underground Stock Markets. An Accelerator is optional for boosting the Air Control Center or THOR Control Center's production speed. Other than that it's mostly up to saving and loading in order to determine where the HQs are at. Just beware while the mission ends in a success upon destroying them, it will not fulfill the objective of protecting the Field HQ for the full 45 minutes.
